Anemia

Anaemia is a condition in which the body lacks red blood cells due to the insufficient supply of iron. Red blood cells are necessary because they carry oxygen through the body and help to eliminate waste, such as carbon dioxide. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common form of anemia; some of its causes include blood loss, lack of iron in the diet, and the inability of the body to absorb iron.Depending on the causes, the symptoms of anemia may sometimes go unnoticed, as the deficiency becomes more severe, symptoms also worsen. Some of the more common include headache, fatigue, difficulty breathing, dizziness, irritability, paleness, arrhythmia, brittle nails and pica. Pica is when an individual has abnormal cravings of non-nutritive materials, such as ice or starch. The most common cause of anemia iron deficiency is blood loss.

Women who have long-lasting menstrual periods may develop this type of anemia. Pregnancy is another possible cause, because their bodies need greater amounts of iron to supply themselves and to the fetus. Some women who lose blood during childbirth, also have a risk of anaemia.Another common cause of anemia iron deficiency related to blood loss is internal bleeding, whether an individual has a chronic blood loss by an ulcer, a tumor, polyps, cancer or uterine fibroids, you can lose much iron in a short period of time. Some people experience gastrointestinal bleeding by overuse of aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications not drugs (NSAIDs). The second most common cause of anemia iron deficiency is to have a diet low in nutrients, people who do not consume foods rich in iron regularly have one higher risk of developing the condition, spinach, beans and fortified foods contribute high levels of iron and other nutrients essential for the proper development and functioning of the organism. For some people, iron deficiency anemia can be caused by the inability of the body to absorb iron, this may occur with certain intestinal, such as Crohn’s disease or celiac disease disorders, and also usually occurs after intestinal surgery, some medications used to decrease the acidity of the stomach, for example, hinder the absorption of iron.

Once you have determined, iron deficiency anaemia is treatable. If anemia is caused by an inadequate diet, can be treated by increasing the intake of iron-rich foods and taking an ordinary iron supplement. When anemia is due to the loss of blood caused by an underlying condition, doctors must treat the problem that caused the bleeding, into the treatment for women with excess of loss of blood during the period, oral contraceptives are part of the treatment for ulcers, treatment is based on antibiotics but in some cases surgery is required for extirpate fibroids or polyps.
